Scouting BSA honors its adult leaders

Troop 624 Scoutmaster Matt Hensley and Kullen Garrett received Unit of the Year Award from James Hylemon.

A number of local scouters have been honored in recent months for their work in Scouting.

In December the Daniel Boone Council Order of the Arrow honored John Lampley, Looking Glass District Chairman and Troop 628 Scoutmaster, with the Founder’s Award.

During the Looking Glass District Banquet in January Jennifer Welch, Scoutmaster of Troop 72, and David Smith, Charter Organization Representative of Pack 26 and Troops 26 and 4026, received the District Award of Merit while Cub Scout Pack 26 and Scout Troop 624 were recognized as Units of the Year.  The plaques were presented by District Director James Hylemon.

In February Unit Commissioner Ron Kuebler received the Torch of Gold Award at the Indian Waters  Council Banquet in Sumter, South Carolina. The award recognizes adults for exceptional service and leadership in working with Scouts who have disabilities. Kuebler served in the Indian Waters council before joining the Daniel Boone Council of Western North Carolina.

At the Daniel Boone Council Banquet in March, Scouter Don Henderson received the council’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Retired as Scoutmaster of Edneyville Troop 605 after 19 years, Henderson is currently the charter organization representative for Pack 605 and Troop 605. He and other recipients received a rocking chair.

The Looking Glass District of the Daniel Boone Council has 14 Cub Scout Packs and 16 Scout Troops.
