Poplar Drive fire now 70% contained

The Poplar Drive Fire in Henderson County remained at 434 acres on Sunday and was 70 percent contained.

Percent containment represents sections of fire line that pose no escape risk without further action from firefighters, according to a press release from the N.C. Forest Service.
A State of Emergency has been issued by N.C. Governor Roy Cooper due to existing and potential wildfires in North Carolina.
One home, two cabins and three outbuildings have been lost in the Edneyville fire, while another home sustained damage.
Two firefighters sustained minor injuries and both were treated and released. Four minor motor vehicle accidents have been reported with no injuries, according to the press release.
Personnel with the N.C. Forest Service, N.C. Emergency Management, Office of State Fire Marshal, Henderson County Emergency Management, Henderson County Sheriff’s Office, Edneyville Fire Department along with numerous other fire departments from across the state are responding to the incident.
A burning ban issued by the forest service for Henderson County and all other counties in Western North Carolina remains in place.
