League forum aims to bridge partisan divide

The League of Women Voters is presenting the program “Across the Continental Divide” by the Western North Carolina Braver Angels Alliance at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 2, at St. James Episcopal Church, 766 N. Main St.

The program is an introduction to the work of Braver Angels, an organization established in 2016 on the principle that many of society’s most pressing problems are caused by our inability to see the humanity in people with opposing worldviews.

The nation’s largest cross-partisan volunteer-led movement to bridge the partisan divide, Braver Angels teaches ways to model respect of differing viewpoints, practice listening skills, reduce judgement, and ‘lower the temperature” to defuse conflict. All are invited, including high school students. For more information visit www.lwvhcnc.org.
