Community Foundation awards 266 scholarships totaling $648,000

The Board of Directors of the Community Foundation of Henderson County has approved 266 scholarships totaling $647,950 to both new applicants and returning students for the 2024-2025 academic year, the foundation announced.

New scholarship awards totaling $278,375 will support 115 local students seeking a post-secondary degree. The remaining $369,575 supports the 146 current scholarship recipients who have already embarked upon their degree pursuit and have met the requested criteria for continued funding in their education.

“Receiving a CFHC scholarship last year was a game changer for me,” said Miranda Hill, who was awarded the Jan F. & Harry J. Nolan Women's Scholarship and the Sigrun M. Mapes Nursing Scholarship in 2023. “It allowed me to attend nursing school without debt and allowed me to focus on my studies. Now, entering my last year of nursing school and not having to worry financially is a huge burden that has been lifted from my shoulders. I am beyond thankful for the Community Foundation, the donors who fund and make their work possible, and the people who believe in me enough to support my studies.”

Since 1982, the foundation has awarded more than 2,000 local students scholarships worth more than $7 million. Funding for CFHC scholarships comes from local community members and businesses. The criteria for scholarship consideration are diverse, ranging from academic performance to community involvement, course of study, or even specific school enrollment. This year's recipients include aspiring teachers, nurses, engineers, writers, and more. Scholarship awards range from $500 to $10,000 each year.
