FLAT ROCK — The Book Exchange has reopened after repairs from a truck accident last month that demolished the front porch.
The front porch of the historic building, which dates to 1847 as the Flat Rock Post Office, was heavily damaged when a pickup truck crashed into it on May 17. A new porch is still under construction but customers can get easy access through the side door.
"The building is completely sound and now that Duke Power has turned our electricity back on, we are up and running," said bookstore manager Jinny Bell.
Located at 2680 Greenville Highway, the Book Exchange is open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Paperbacks are $1 each and hardcovers are $8 or less. The store has mysteries, westerns, biographies, cookbooks, religious works and many other offerings. All workers are volunteers. All proceeds go to local charities.
