The old jury duty scam is back.
The Henderson County Sheriff's Office warned residents of a scam that has cropped up several times in the past. During this term of Superior Court, someone is calling residents and telling them they missed jury duty and a sheriff's deputy will be coming to arrest them unless they go to Bi-Lo or Wal-Mart and purchase a green dot card or money order in the sum of $500.
The callers are using names of current public officials or recently retired judicial officials to seemingly legitimize the information being given, the sheriff's office said. Sheriff Charles McDonald urged residents to hang up on the caller and immediately contact the Sheriff's Office at 828-697-4911 or 697-4912 to report the calls. Sheriff McDonald also urged people to share the information with friends and family in an effort to help prevent anyone from falling victim to the fraud.
