Clarence Howard Jr.

Clarence Howard Jr.

Clarence Howard Jr. born the 3rd of 11 children of Pinesett and Bessie Howard passed peacefully March 15, 2015, with much gratitude to Elizabeth House in Flat Rock, N. C. He seemed very proud his son; Dan was here to help him thru his process. Clarence has been a life long resident of the Hendersonville area. Born in Tuxedo, raised in Brevard. Clarence drove a cab for about 15 years in Hendersonville . He was most noticeable in the last 8 years after an amputation left him in a motorized wheelchair. His travels included Hot Dog World, Sun Trust, and to the Skyland Barbershop to see Tom each month. When he was more able, a stop at Ingles bakery for a half coconut cake was in order. It seems Clarence had many angels here in the area. His resistance seemed to start from a childhood of "mistrust". He lied his age at 16 to join the Naval reserves. After being honorably discharged at 18 he joined the Army and became an Army Ranger. He served in the Korean War and was also stationed in Germany. After that term he signed up again, to be honorably discharged for a third time due to family hardship. Clarence met and married his pen pal Martha Nickel during his time in basic training in Battlecreek, Mi. That union produced his 3 children, all still residing in the Mt. Pleasant, Mi. area. Sandra (Mike) Langlois, Dan (Roni ) Howard and Anna (Kevin) Quick and their families. Clarence said the only thing colder than Korea was " Michigan" and he wanted no part of it. Clarence leaves two brothers; Paul Howard of Marion, N.C. and Arnold Howard of Long Beach,California. We would like to thank you all that have tried so hard to "support" Clarence thru his many trials. The Veterans Hospital and wound care staff in Ashville, Pardee hospital and staff and so many more. A very special thank you to his Angels Lori Graham, Ellen McCarson, Megan Murphy, and Marina Zinni. Memorial donations would be appreciated at Council on Aging on his behalf.
A graveside service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday March 19, 2015 at Shepherd Memorial Park. Military Honors will be provided by the Henderson County Honor Guard.
Condolence cards may be sent to the family at www.jacksonfuneralservice.com or to Po Box
