Kevin Mark Hatcher, 51

Kevin Mark Hatcher, 51, of Hendersonville, North Carolina, died unexpectedly of natural causes Friday, October 28, 2016. Kevin was born November 28, 1964 in Beckley, West Virginia. After graduating from Elyria High school in 1983, he served his country in the United States Marine Corps until 1987.Kevin also
graduated in 1992 from Fairmont State College, in Fairmont, West Virginia, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice.
Kevin was preceded in death by his mother, Billie Joyce Hatcher (nee Williams) in 1998. He is survived by his father, David C. Hatcher of Elyria, Ohio; sister, Marci D. Lozano (David), of North Ridgeville, Ohio; brothers, Shawn D. Hatcher (Dawn) and David C. Hatcher Jr. (Lisa) both of Elyria, Ohio. He was also loved by nephews, David Lozano, Jr. (Stacy) of Elyria, Ohio; Derek Lozano(Amber) of Parma Heights, Ohio; and Tyler Hatcher of Elyria, Ohio; nieces, Sydney and Jordan Hatcher, both of Elyria, Ohio; great-niece, Hadrian and great-nephew, Marcus Lozano. The family will have a private celebration of life in West Virginia.

Katherine “Kat” Bauer, 70 of Hendersonville died Thursday, October 29, 2016 at the Elizabeth House. She is survived by her husband Bob Bauer; her daughter Shawn Linsey of Hendersonville; grandson Kyle Jacob of Hendersonville; her sister Suzette Johnson of Gainesville, Fla; and her brother Charlie Channell of Hendersonville.

James L. “Jim” Grindle, 80

James L. “Jim” Grindle, 80, of Hendersonville went home to be with the Lord Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Life Care Center of Hendersonville after a period of declining health, A native of Gainesville, GA, Jim lived in Henderson county since 1960. He was the son of the late Clyde and Fannie Lee Lenderman Grindle, and the husband of the late Rinna Walker Grindle who died in 1988. Jim was an Army reservist and a member of First Baptist Church, Hendersonville. Jim was a lighting engineer working with GE his entire working life. He was a member of the Flat Rock Lions Club and Hubert M. Smith American Legion Post #77. Jim volunteered with Four Seasons Compassion for Life. He was an instrumental part of the Special Friends Ministry at First Baptist Church. Also at First Baptist, Jim was an usher, sound technician, and Wednesday night “Yeast Roll Man”.

Survivors include his loving wife of twenty-eight years, Glenda; two daughters, Cheryl Grindle of Santa Fe, NM, Beth Grindle Templeton and her husband Russell of Hendersonville; a step-daughter, Kim McKibbin and her husband Bill of Flat Rock; a son, Eric Swindell of Hendersonville; a sister, Carol Grindle McDaniel and her husband Jim of Kennesaw, GA; four grandchildren, Kristina Harrington, Mark Templeton, Clarissa Templeton-Smith, Cole McKibbin; and a number of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be at 2:00 pm Saturday, October 29, 2016 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Scoggins officiating. Burial will take place Alta Vista cemetery in Gainesville, GA. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 pm in the church prior to the service.

Sidney David McGraw, Jr., 73,

Sidney David McGraw, Jr., 73, of Flat Rock went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, October 23, 2016 at the Elizabeth House. He was a son of the late Sidney McGraw and Edna Corn McGraw Croslin. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Larry Allen McGraw.
A veteran of the US Army and member of Upward Christian Fellowship, David loved serving the Lord and read his Bible daily. He was a talented musician and guitarist who was active with the church choir and routinely visited nursing homes to sing and play for the residents. David worked at several of the local dealerships in Hendersonville as an automotive technician before retiring due to health reasons.
Survivors include his loving wife of 49 years, Bula Proffitt McGraw; a daughter, Becky Melissa Shwahna and husband Sam; a son, Michael David McGraw both of Hendersonville; three grandchildren, Andrew McGraw, Alexander and Adam Shwahna; three brothers, Mack of AZ, Preston of ID and Johnny McGraw and wife Lisa of ID; and a sister, Helen Bruner and husband Barry of FL.
Funeral services will be held 2pm on Thursday, October 27, 2016 in the chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home with Rev. Andy Craver and Rev. Ken Parker officiating. The body will lie in state prior to the service beginning at 1pm. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Robyn Graham Painter 41

Robyn Graham Painter 41 of Hendersonville, NC passed away on Wed., October 19, 2016 after a courageous 2 year battle with breast cancer. Robyn was an extremely loving & devoted mother to her two sons: Graham Patrick & Hayes Maxwell Painter. Robyn is also survived by her husband Danny Painter, mother Karyn B Spreeman, and her siblings, Wike Graham & wife Kimberly, Kyle Graham & wife Tracey, Elayne Bishop & husband Aaron, Heather Conklin & husband Brent, Heidi Lance & husband Patrick, step mother Jann S. Graham, 7 Nieces & 5 Nephews & a large extended family. Robyn is proceeded in death by her father Robert Wike Graham & step father Karle Spreeman.
Robyn was born on December 3, 1974 in Hendersonville, NC. She was a graduate of Hendersonville High School. Robyn earned a degree in Heath Promotions from Appalachian State University. After College she followed her love for the art of cooking & earned a Culinary Degree from AB Tech.
Robyn was the Director of Nutritional Services for Park Ridge Heath. Robyn continued with her love of food & provided the foundation for on the site work training as the executive chef & program manager for the Dandelion, Mainstays Local Restaurant.
Robyn’s whole heart belonged to her children. She loved to cook & entertain for her family & friends.
Funeral Arrangements: Grave Side Service to be held on Saturday October 22 at 11:00 am at Cullowhee United Methodist Cemetery with a private Celebration of Life to follow.

John "J.T." Diehl, 96

John "J.T." Diehl, 96, of Hendersonville, passed away Saturday, October 15, 2016. A native and life-long resident of Henderson County, he was a son of the late John L. and Nannie Brackett Diehl, and husband of the late Margaret Wirtz Diehl, who died in 2005. He was also preceded in death by his grandson, Matthew Bryan Hill; sister, Anna Diehl Freeman; and brother, Thomas "T.A." Diehl.
John served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII as a radio technician and an electronics instructor. He retired from Amcermet Corp and was a Sunday School teacher and deacon. He was the oldest member of West Hendersonville Baptist Church.
He is survived by daughters, Barbara D. Rhodes (Sherrell), Beverly D. Blake (Richard), and Beth D. Hill (Chris); son, Bryant Diehl (Betty); six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held 2pm Saturday, October 22, 2016 in the chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home with Pastor Tracy Fletcher officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1-2pm in the chapel.

Bertha McCraw Mottl

Bertha McCraw Mottl of Dana, NC passed away Monday, September 26, 2016 at her Florida residence in Lake Wales.
She was born May 20, 1926 in Dana, NC to the late Robert & Nellie Gilliam. She lived in Dana for most of her life and had moved to Lake Wales in 1984. She was a farmer’s wife/homemaker an avid fund raiser and flea marketeer. She was a former volunteer paramedic for both Dana Fire Department and Timberlane Fire Department in Lake Wales, Florida. She blessed many of her neighbors lives with meals and other needs.
Bertha was preceded in death by her first husband, James P. McCraw; second husband, Tom Mottl; son, Curtis McCraw; and daughter, Patricia Harwell.
Survivors include her daughters, Marcella Styles (Dwayne) of Ridgeway, SC and Marsha Stepp of Hendersonville, NC; sons, Hulon McCraw (Linda) of Hendersonville, NC, Coy McCraw (Cindy) of Hendersonville, NC and Phillip McCraw of Hendersonville, NC; 21 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held 2:30 PM Saturday, October 1st at the Upward Holiness Baptist Church with Rev. Dwayne Styles, Rev. Rick Harris and Rev. Patrick Ballard officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Reverend Howard Cabe, 89,

Reverend Howard Cabe, 89, of Hendersonville went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 25, 2016. He was a son of the late Jessie and Sally London Cabe. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Lola Mae Galion and Gertrude Hamilton; and two brothers, Clemon and Harold Cabe.
Rev. Cabe served in the US Army during WWII and the Korean War. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, United Nationals Service Medal and a Purple Heart. He served as a Baptist minister for over 45 years. His churches included Tabernacle Baptist in China Grove and Hoopers Creek Baptist. He greatly enjoyed gardening and loved the Lord and his family.
Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Elizabeth Cabe of the home; one son, Timothy Howard Cabe (Sharon) of Hendersonville; two granddaughters, Leigh Beddingfield (Brent) of Zirconia and Amber Knighton (Jeremy) of Swannanoa; six great-grandchildren, Bryson, Lance, Garrett, Maison, Jakob and Katelynn; and one niece, Patricia Hutchinson (Don).
Funeral services will be held 2pm on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at First Baptist Church of Hendersonville with Rev. Wally Shamburger and Rev. Jack Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends at the church an hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Shepherd Memorial Park.

Richard Christy DiCicco, 74, of Hendersonville, NC and formerly of Coraopolis, PA passed away unexpectedly Sunday, September 25, 2016.
He was the owner and operator of Ace Automotive Parts and was a member of the Antique Car Club of Hendersonville.
He is survived by two sons, Chris and John DiCicco and a daughter, Elsa DiCicco Snyder.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Tuesday, September 27th at Jackson Funeral Service. A funeral service will be held 9:30 AM Saturday, October 1st at St. Joseph’s Church in Coraopolis, PA with burial following at Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery. He was the son of the late John Davis Covington Sr. and Catherine L. Cave Covington of Ruterfordton, NC
John had worked for Southern Concrete Materials for 21 years.
John enjoyed life, he loved old cars, racing, spending time with family and friends and had a passion for music. He attended Upward Christian Fellowship. John was loved and will be missed by all that knew him.
Survivors in addition to his mother include his wife, Frankie Mathis Covington, three sons, John B. Covington of Rutherfordton NC, Wayne Jones and Christopher C. Jones of Hendersonville, two daughters, Brittany M. Arrowood of Leicester, NC and Donna Mae Jones of Hendersonville and the Brotherhood of Southern Patriots.

Ricky James “Rick” Rush, 57, of Saluda, NC passed away Monday, September 19, 2016. He was born in Heidleburg, Germany on April 6, 1959. He was preceded in death by his parents 1st Sergeant Green Poe Rush and Vera Louise Dunlap Rush. He grew up in Radcliff, Kentucky, graduated from Hardin County High School and ITT Tech in Indianapolis, Indiana. Rick resided in Orlando, Florida for 38 years before moving to Hendersonville, NC. He was an avid Gator Fan, a Harley Davidson enthusiast, enjoyed fishing, sports and Dave Matthews. He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Debbie Rush; four sons, Corey (Monica), Kyle, Jacob and Brad; a granddaughter, Chloe; two sisters, Nora Evelyne Layton (Skip) and Sylvia Williams; two nieces, Patti Battista (Marty) and Susie Botcher (Dale); two great nephews, Bobby and Nico Battista; a brother-in-law, Kenny Castellani (Cindy); a mother-in-law, Ginny Castellani; his canine companions, Chewy, Roxie and Hopper. Philip Homer Grose Jr., 90

On September 8th, 2016, Philip Homer Grose Jr., age 90, better known as “P.H.”, went to be with his Lord in Heaven surrounded by his family.

Mr. Grose was born in Spindale, N.C. on November 3rd 1925, but was reared in his beloved Tuxedo community in Henderson County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Philip Homer Grose, Sr., and his wife Myrtle Sansing Grose; one brother, Ernest Grose; one son, Stephen Michael Grose; as well as his wife, Harriette Lucille Grose.

He was the valedictorian from Flat Rock High School’s graduating class of 1942. He proudly served his country during World War II with the 3rd division of U.S. Marine Corp. from 1944 through 1946.

He was the former owner and the executive operator of Grose’s Corner Lincoln-Mercury-GMC from 1957 until his retirement in 1982. He was also one of the founding members of the Motorama Car Show in 1964, that continues to be a successful annual event in Hendersonville

Mr. Grose was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, a deacon for many years. He enjoyed the outdoors while he was tending to his cattle. He was an avid gardener who enjoyed not only cooking but canning the vegetables he harvested.

He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Martha Connell Grose of Hendersonville; one son, Philip H. Grose III and his wife, Naomi of Flat Rock; two sisters: Elizabeth Grose Swann of Hendersonville, and Diane Grose Justus of Eden. Three grandchildren: Philip H. Grose IV and his wife Julie, of West Palm Beach, F.L.; Ashli Megan Grose of Flat Rock, and Stephanie Grose Bell and her husband, Michael of Nashville, T.N. Two great-granddaughters, Isabella Grose and Giavanna Grose of West Palm Beach F.L.; as well as two step-daughters: Kira Hensley and her husband Richard; Carman Pressley and her husband Mark and two step-grandchildren: Emma Hensley and Blake Pressley all of Hendersonville.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 13th, 2016 in Thos. Shepherd’s Church Street Chapel officiated by Reverend Glenn Camp. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service.

Frank E. Watson, 93

Frank E. Watson, age 93 of Hendersonville died Thursday, September 8th, 2016 at Sunnybrook Assisted Living. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri; a son of the late, Frank Ezell Watson and Madeline Morrison Watson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Luke Watson.

Mr. Watson graduated from Emory University in 1950; while he was in college he enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942 where he served as a Navigator on a B-24 Bomber in the South Pacific completing 38 missions throughout the duration of World War II. He was employed with General Electric for many years; following his retirement he and his family moved back to Hendersonville.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Martha Jones Watson of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Betsy Watson of Shelby and Dick and Terri Watson of Rockford, IL; one daughter, Judi Olmstead of Myrtle Beach, SC; and three granddaughters, Lindsay Watson, Lauren Jenrich and her husband, Cameron and Danielle Watson.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 13th, 2016 in the Brunson Chapel of the First United Methodist Church of Hendersonville officiated by the Reverend Dr. Mark Ralls.

Frances Josephine Corn Crompton

Frances Josephine Corn Crompton went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 7, 2016. She is now safely and lovingly sheltered in the arms of God.
She was a lifelong native of Henderson County and member of Fruitland Baptist Church. Born on January 17, 1935, she was the daughter of the late John Pinkney Corn and Helen Griffin Corn. She was preceded in death by her husband, James (Jim) O. Crompton and her sister and best friend Agnes Corn Chandler.
She graduated from Edneyville High School in 1953, then attended Brevard College, and received a degree in Radiologic Technology from Dell School of Medical Technology in 1955. She worked for several doctors, then General Electric where she later retired.
She is survived by her daughter Maria (Shelley) Ward Floyd, her husband Steven A. Floyd whom she considered her son and three grandchildren, Breanna M. Floyd, Charles S. Floyd, and Chandler T. Floyd who were most definitely the lights of her life, her brother-in-law Ronald (Bud) Chandler, cousin Hazel Ashburn, whom she considered her best friend and sister, aunt Judy Griffin Alden, uncle JC Justus, and many other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held Sunday September 11, 2016 at 3 PM at The Chapel in the Pines of Jackson Funeral Service with the Rev Dr. Michael Smith and Rev. Craig Stepp officiating. Private entombment will follow the service. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the chapel.

Margie Lindsey McCall, 90

Margie Lindsey McCall, age 90 of Hendersonville passed away on Friday, September 2nd, 2016 at Sunnybrook Assisted Living. Born on August 23rd, 1926, she was a native and lifelong resident of Henderson County. She was the daughter of the late John Ripley and Alice Morgan Lindsey and wife of the late James “Bud” McCall, who died in 1984. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Gail McCall; son, Larry Ripley McCall; three brothers, Homer Lindsey, Harvey Lindsey, and Roy Beddingfield; six sisters, Ruby McAbee, Alice Edwards, Helen McGraw, Lillian Bane, Vionia Staton and Lola Gragg.

She retired from Berkley-Mills Kimberly Clark and after retirement she worked for the Henderson County School System as a bus attendant for autistic children. She was a member of Tuxedo First Baptist Church.

Surviving is her son, Marny McCall and wife, Cloyed of Tuxedo; a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Sigmon McCall of Tuxedo; six grandchildren, Larry McCall and wife, Vickie of Tuxedo, Pam Leslie and husband, Mike of Waynesville, Melanie Johnson and husband, Eric of Hendersonville, Kim Greene and husband, Dean of Weaverville, Sherry Coren and husband, Ronnie of Saluda, Byron McCall and wife Cristan of Toccoa, Georgia; fourteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 9th, 2016 at the Tuxedo First Baptist Church officiated by the Reverend Mikell Bennett and Reverend Mike Leslie. Burial will follow the service in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 1:45 P.M. at the church and at other times the family will be at the home of Marny and Cloyed McCall.

Lawrence “Bunt” Alonzo Garren, 88

Lawrence “Bunt” Alonzo Garren, age 88 of Fletcher died Monday, September 5th, 2016 at Sunnybrook Assisted Living. He was born in Fletcher; a son of the late, Wade and Alice Souther Garren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah Garren in 2014.

He graduated from Fletcher High School and he worked as a brick mason for many years. He enjoyed farming, working outdoors and singing; he dedicated numerous hours as a respected choir director for many years.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Stephanie Lindsey; and by his granddaughter, Aubrey Lindsey all of Fletcher.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 8th, 2016 at Fletcher First Baptist Church officiated by the Reverend Roy Waldroup and Reverend David Gentry. Burial will follow in Hoopers Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.
