Landrum L. Allen, 87

Landrum L. Allen, 87, of Hendersonville, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 24, 2015 at the North Carolina State Veterans Home in Black Mountain.
He was a native of Henderson County and son of the late James Crawford Allen and Minnie LeaEtta Bayne Allen. He was also preceded in death by a son, Jimmie Carol Allen; grandson, John Roy Allen; great-grandson, Bailey Nichols; brothers, Alvin, William, James, Hendrix and Oliver; and sisters, Ollie Powell, Lila Jones and Sreptia Allen.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict as a Medical Technician. He was a member of Cedar Springs Baptist Church. Landrum was a union carpenter with The Asheville Local for most of his life and worked with his wife Ethel in their real estate company Scottie Realty until he retired.
He was an avid gardener with a green thumb who loved flowers and woodworking. His flowers and wood designs were some of the best ever. He loved his family and was dearly loved by them.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years Ethel; sons, Kenneth and wife Sharon, Steve and wife Diane, Joseph and wife Rosalie all of Hendersonville; daughter, Dale Lynch and husband Al of Milford, DE; grandchildren, Todd and wife Brooke, Jessica and fiance Lee, Christopher and wife Rachel, Joshua and wife Angela, Nathan and wife Angela all of Hendersonville, Brian of Raleigh, Shane Peeler of SC, Charise and husband Geoff of GA, Lisa and husband Michael of SC; 19 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and his loving cat Tiger.
Visitation will be held 1-2 pm on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 in the chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 2pm with Rev. Dan Holbert and Rev. John Coulter officiating. Entombment will be private.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to a local veterans association of choice in his honor.
The family is very grateful to the staff at the North Carolina State Veterans Home in Black Mountain for the sincere affection for all of the veterans in their care.
