Mart Jurima, 75 of Flat Rock, went home to the Lord on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013 at Hendersonville Health & Rehab after an extended illness.
He was born in Estonia, a son of the late August and Elsa Jurima. He lived in the San Francisco Bay area of California for many years, before moving to Hendersonville 17 years ago. He was a Heavy Duty Mechanic, retired in 1987 after 25 years with the US Army, Civil Service.
An Army veteran, he enjoyed fishing, car racing, football, and model trains. He loved to travel, and especially enjoyed cruises. He was of the Lutheran faith.
Surviving is his wife of 49 years, Patricia Jurima; one daughter Misty Talley of Florida; grandchildren Tiffany, Nicole, and Justin Talley of Edneyville; sisters in law Ruth McCraw and husband Vance and Sarah P. Laughter; brother in law Fred Justice and wife Kathy; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013, in the chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Revs. Ricky Campbell and Carolyn Poteet will officiate. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum of Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Military honors will be rendered by Hubert M. Smith American Legion Post 77, Hedrick-Rhodes Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5206, and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 14. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service in the chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, c/o Council on Aging for Henderson County, 105 King Creek Boulevard, Hendersonville, North Carolina 28792.
