Helen Emma Roman Sigal, 96, of Hendersonville passed away Wednesday April 2, 2014 at
Sharon's Place of Hendersonville.
Mrs. Sigal was born Sept. 18, 1917, in Pittsburgh to the late John and Sara Roman. Helen was one of 10 siblings. Due to the size of the family she was given the responsibility to care for many of her brothers and sisters. She was married in 1937 to Meyer Sigal, a marriage of 63 years. In the words of her grandson "Quiet matriarch of our family, an amazing influence and a beautiful woman."
Helen was a lifelong resident of Pittsburgh. Following the death of her husband in 2000 and with declining health, she moved to Hendersonville for her daughter's care. She spent 11 years with her daughter before going to Sharon's Place.
She is survived by her daughter Eydie Merwitzer and her husband William of Hendersonville; a son Robert Cramer and his wife of Clarksville, Ga.; daughters, Rochelle Pettes of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Roslyn Sigal of Land O' Lakes, Fla.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Other survivors include two brothers, John Roman and Harry Roman; two sisters, Dolores Sunkin and Elizabeth Lucci; several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Sigal is also survived by a special friend and caregiver, Sharon Holcombe of Sharon's Place.
A Memorial Service will be held 12:30 p.m. Sunday, May 4, 2014, at Agudas Israel where she attended with her daughter.
