Vocational Solutions of Henderson County has announced the selection of Allen Combs as its new executive director.
Vocational Solutions has been serving the nonprofit sector since 1968 as an organization that provides vocational training, job placement and developmental services to persons with employment barriers resulting from either disability or other socioeconomic circumstances. Combs served on the board of directors with Vocational Solutions of Henderson County from 2009-12.
"We are very pleased to announce this appointment," said Nick Weedman, treasurer, board of directors and chair of the search committee. "Allen will bring experience, leadership and creativity to various business enterprises and a deep sense of commitment to VSHC as well as our community. He has served nonprofits at all program, fundraising, executive and leadership levels, and has a breadth of perspective and experience."
Comb's resume includes more than 30 years of executive leadership and planning, administration, as well as sales and marketing experience in both for profit and nonprofit sectors. He has been the project lead in developing and implementing educational and leadership programs, supporting capacity building grant projects and providing administrative coordination for various nonprofit sectors.
Combs serves and has served as a board member of several local nonprofit organizations in various leadership capacities. He was elected and served on Henderson County's Board of Education from 1992-1996. He served as vice president, Henderson County Home Builders Association. He currently presides as vice president of the board of directors with the Henderson County Education Foundation, previously serving two years as president and two years as vice president since 2006.
Combs is actively involved in community serice in other regards as well. He is a tennis coach for men's and women's tennis teams at West Henderson High School and has been a member of the Henderson County Community Tennis Association since 2011.
Combs and his wife, Pam, have been lifelong residents of Henderson County and have two children, Zac and Tricia.
