Pro's restaurant closes

Pro's Pizza, a popular Spartanburg Highway restaurant that served the area for more than a generation, has closed.

John Shepherd, who sold the business in the summer of 2010 to Steve and Lesley Carpenter, said he had heard the restaurant had closed but did not know the details. Carpenter could not be reached for comment. A sign that someone left on the door indicated that some employees were caught off guard by the sudden closing.

 It said, "Do we have jobs paychecks!"

Pro's became the latest well-known dining establishment to close this summer. Square 1 on South Main Street and the Tractor Shed on White Street have all fallen victim to slower sales in the economic downturn or changing dining tastes.

Pro's specialized in pizza and other Italian dishes and had an adjoining bar, Johnny's.
