Restaurants, stores honor veterans with free stuff

From doughnuts to hardware, restaurants and chain stores are offering discounts, free meals and other free stuff to veterans and active-duty military personnel over the Veterans Day holiday weekend. In many cases, the businesses require a military ID is required or proof of service.
The Raleigh News&Observer reports a list of chain stores offering the discounts.
Veterans Day specialsVeterans or their families may want to check to make sure the veterans deals apply to all locations but in most cases they do. One not listed in the N&O is the Golden Corral's annual free dinner for veterans, which always draws a big crowd to the Golden Corral on U.S. 64 East across from Highland Square (Wal-Mart) shopping center.
Some examples:
• Krispy Kreme, a free doughnut and small coffee on Sunday.
• Walgreens, store-brand items discounted 20 percent, other merchandise 15 percent off.
• Outback Steakhouse, free Bloomin Onion and soft drink on Sunday or Monday.
• Olive Garden, free entrees on Sunday when ordering from a special menu.
• Harris Teeter, 11 percent discount on their purchases Sunday. (Discount applies after coupons and Harris Teeter card savings, excludes alcohol, tobacco, tickets and gift cards.)
• Lowes and Home Depot, 10 percent discount during the holiday weekend.
