A Boy Scout going for his Eagle badge will plant a pollinator bed along the Oklawaha Greenway as an attractor for bees, humming birds and butterflies, to clear invasive plants and add an attractive visual scene along the trail.
Nathan Lindsey, a senior at East Henderson High School and Life scout with Troop 610, told the Hendersonville City Council on Thursday that his time in the Scouts has helped him appreciate the value of native plants and pollinators and the threat of invasive plants.
He plans to plant milkweed, black-eyed Susans and phlox. Scouts seeking the Eagle rank must earn 21 merit badges and complete a project that serves their community. Lindsey told the council that partners on his Eagle project include Suzanne Hale of the Friends of the Oklawaha Greenway, the Bullington Center and Bethel Wesleyan Church.
