U.S. Rep. Chuck Edwards is urging the Asheville City Council to take action to improve its water system based on recommendations from a review of the December 2022 water outage that affected tens of thousands of residents.
In the letter, Edwards urged council members to prioritize and adopt the recent Independent Review Committee’s recommendations, and called for quarterly public updates until the recommendations are met, then semi-annually afterward.
“There are fewer priorities that should rank higher for a local government than the ability to provide citizens with the most basic resource: safe and reliable water," Edwards said. "As financial resources are limited, I urge Asheville city council members to reprioritize their spending to quickly adopt the IRC’s recommendations. My office stands ready to assist the city of Asheville in any way possible to bring forth a reliable and resilient water system for our district’s residents.”
