Rep. Johnson named chair of House Oversight Committee

State Rep. Jake Johnson has been named chair of the House Oversight Committee, an influential panel with the authority to issue subpoenas and investigate government operations.

Johnson says that he expects the committee to play an active role in eliminating wasteful spending, holding departments accountable and ensuring that the rebuilding of the state after disasters is carried out more efficiently than ever before. House Speaker Destin Hall also appointed Johnson to:

• Appropriations, Capital and Information Technology (Chair)
• Appropriations (Vice-Chair)
• Commerce and Economic Development (Vice-Chair)
• House Select Committee on Helene Recovery (Vice-Chair)
• Education - K-12
• Wildlife Resources

“I am looking forward to working with my fellow colleagues as chair of the Appropriations, Capital and Information Technology, and Oversight committees," Johnson said. "Our primary focus will be on hurricane recovery and getting people back in their homes as quickly as possible. We are continuing to fight every day to secure funding and ensure there are no unnecessary roadblocks on the road to recovery."

Johnson also announced that the North Carolina General Assembly has partnered with Appalachian Community Capital and the Dogwood Health Trust to provide $30 million in grants for small businesses in Western North Carolina.
