FLAT ROCK — Young actors set off for a competition in Atlanta Friday after helping accept a $3,000 check that will benefit their program.
Dr. Don Jones, president of the Henderson County Education Foundation, made the donation to Flat Rock Playhouse artistic director Vincent Marini. The gift will fund 30 Wendy Wilkins Memorial scholarships for children studying drama and singing at the YouTheatre.
Since 2008 the foundation has donated $15,000 to YouTheatre, helping 150 Henderson County middle school students to study and perform at the theater.
A part of that group, YT Revolution, left Friday afternoon for a competition in Atlanta under the Performing Arts Consultants. The troupe will perform four songs. They also get to visit the Six Flags amusement park.
