Boys & Girls Club celebrates birthday with 'Roaring '20s' theme

The Boys & Girls Club of Henderson County will celebrate two decades of mission milestones that have empowered thousands of Henderson County youth at the upcoming Celebration Dinner benefit at Champion Hills Club on June 1.

"Our theme for the Celebration Dinner this year is the Roaring Twenties, and it really resonates with the work that the Club has accomplished in the community over the past 20 years," Board President Dave Adams said in a news release. "For many families, the Club has been generation-changing, helping the kids who need us the most to succeed in school, stay healthy and fit and make positive personal decisions."
Adams joined local residents Tom and Sue Fazio as a co-founder of the Boys & Girls Club of Henderson County in 1993. In the first year roughly 200 young people were served in a 2,000-square-foot building in the Green Meadows neighborhood. Today, the downtown Hendersonville campus has expanded to 35,000 square feet and serves more than 1,500 young people annually. An all-inclusive membership cost of $5 per child per year hasn't changed since the club's founding. Members benefit from more than 50 programs focusing on Education & Career Development, Sports, Fitness & Recreation, Health & Life Skills, Character & Leadership, and the Arts.
"We have much to celebrate this year," remarked event chairwoman and board member Cherry Troxel, who added that once again Hunter Subaru is the event's Premier Sponsor. "One of the reasons this Club is so effective is the level of support from within the community. We are lucky to have the commitment of many longtime partners, including Hunter Automotive, who have made the work of the Club so successful and sustainable."
Celebration Dinner tickets are $125 per person and event proceeds benefit award-winning programs offered to Club youth throughout the year. The Boys & Girls Club will also announce the recipient of the 2013 Local Hero Award at the event. This distinction honors community members who exemplify the caliber of adult that Boys & Girls Club members are encouraged to become; productive, caring, responsible citizens.

Past Local Hero recipients include Jeff Miller, Steve and Lynn Easler, Bill Stokes, Eleanora Meloun and Marcia Caserio.
Additional event sponsors include Dixon Hughes Goodman, Dixon Hughes Goodman Wealth Advisors, Mountain 1st Bank & Trust, Kimberly-Clark, Shelley's Jewelry, Champion Hills Club, Silver Fox Gallery & Interiors, Morgan Stanley – The Condon Group, Beverly Hanks & Assoc., Joseph Laughter Clothier, Scott Keels Design, Verve and BOLD Life magazines, and Ellie Graham Photography. The Club also thanks sponsors Richard & Cherry Troxel, Bob & Chris Smith, Jim & Charlotte Walsh and Hendersonville Surgical Associates.
