Henderson County residents will join people across the country Saturday in putting food out at their mailboxes to be delivered and distributed by local food pantries as part of the 21st Annual Letter Carriers Food Drive.
United Way, Interfaith Assistance Ministry and Salvation Army are recruiting over 100 volunteers to unload, sort, package and weigh the food at the Postal Annex behind Sam's Club. Time slots are 12:30-2:30; 2:30-4:30; 4:30-6:30; and 6:30-8:30. To sign up contact djacklin@liveunitedhc.org or call 692-1636.
Those unable to volunteer at the site can still contribute by leaving a box or bag of food by their mailbox. Items most needed are canned soups, meats, fish, vegetables, fruits and juices; or boxed goods like cereal, rice and pasta.
