Relay for Life sets Friday events

FLETCHER — Relay for Life 2012 has set the schedule for Friday's annual event to raise money to fight cancer and honor cancer survivors.

 During 6 p.m. opening ceremony, participants will hear from Relay for Life sponsors Pardee CEO Jay Kirby and Michael Absher of RDE Enterprises. North Henderson High School will present the color guard followed by the national anthem by 2011 Relay for Life Idol winner Sarah Zambon. The event will be held this year at the WNC Fairgrounds.

Seventy-even teams have signed up for the 18th annual event, which has set fundraising goal of $200,000.

At 6:25 p.m. the survivor lap will start.

Other events:

6:50 p.m., team lap.

7:10 p.m. Little Miss and Mister Relay introductions.

7:25 p.m., Miss-ter Relay introductions.

7:45 p.m., Relay Idol introductions.

7:55 p.m., Melissa Walters and Friends.

8:20 p.m., Little Miss and Mister Relay winners announced.

8:40 p.m., Southern Connection Cloggers.

8:55 p.m., Miss-ter Relay crowned.

The luminary ceremony starts at 9:10 p.m. with speaker Joe Wise. The Relay Idol winner will be announced at 9:45 p.m.

At 2:12 a.m. the $212 participants will be recognized. The Relay for Life Fight Back Ceremony is at 6 a.m. Saturday with team awards and final lap. Breakfast is provided by Jay and Shirley Grinnell.
