Rotary awards $7,000 in grants

The Hendersonville Rotary Club awarded grants of $300 to $1,500 to nine nonprofits for everything from reading to teeth cleaning to theater for kids.


The grants will be used to provide books for children at IAM, fund an "Amazing Animals" traveling show through Hands On children's museum, provide dental hygiene packets at the Free Clinics, purchase special literacy software for adult learners through Blue Ridge Literacy Council, address eating disorders in youth through the Center for Disordered Eating, purchase a stage and backdrop curtain for the Flat Rock Playhouse YouTheatre and provide summer camp opportunities through the Henderson County Young Leaders. Two important communitywide events funded for 2014 are Farm City Day and Speak Out for Kids.
"We are so proud of the work these nonprofits do and are pleased to provide these grants to area non profits,"  Rotary President Sarah Leatham said. The total amount of grant money awarded this year was $6,950.
