Food Lion donates $2,500 to Salvation Army

The Food Lion Charitable Foundation donated $2,500 to the Salvation Army to help buy food for needy families and individuals.

"This generous gift from Food Lion is extremely important to us as we have seen an increase in the number of clients seeking assistance from the Salvation Army Food Pantry during these cold winter months." said local Captain Christopher Thornhill said in a news release. "We are thankful to Food Lion, who join us in caring for our neighbors in need."

Established in 2001, the Food Lion Charitable Foundation provides financial support for programs and organizations dedicated to feeding the hungry in the communities it serves. Since its inception, the foundation has awarded more than $9 million in grants.
