FLAT ROCK — Flat Rock Playhouse veteran Scott Treadway is back on stage June 28 when "The Fox on the Fairway" opens at Flat Rock Playhouse main stage.A modern-day American tribute to the old-fashioned British style of farce from the 1930s and 1940s, "The Fox on the Fairway" takes audiences to a private country club where lovers' quarrels, romantic shenanigans, information overheard by people who weren't supposed to know it—along with an over-the-top golf tournament—abound. With a ridiculous personal wager at stake, two archrival country club execs go head-to-head over their annual golf tournament. Hopes are dashed, domestic happiness is threatened and a hilarious chain of events just might save the day. It's a laugh-out-loud comedy about love and golf from the author of the Tony Award winning play Lend Me a Tenor.
The tension is palpable on the morning of the highly anticipated annual golf tournament at the picturesque Quail Valley Country Club and Bingham (played by Scott Treadway), the club's anxious club president, will stop at nothing to break their losing streak this year. Bingham's arch nemesis, Dickie, the flamboyant and boisterous owner of the rival country club prods him into an outrageous wager, putting a considerable fortune and Bingham's wife's beloved antique shop on the line.
To the charming but befuddled young Justin, Bingham's assistant, it seems that all of his dreams are coming true. He has just landed his dream job, and Louise, the beautiful club waitress, has accepted his marriage proposal! When Dickie gleefully announces that Quail Valley's star player has switched sides and will play for the Crouching Squirrels, the anxiety-ridden Bingham convinces Justin play for the team!
Justin's surprise golf game seems unstoppable, but will he be able to keep it going in order to break the losing streak and save the day? Or will the Crouching Squirrels once again crush Quail Valley? Will Bingham lose his job, his fortune, his wife and her antique shop all in one day? Or will an unlikely hero step up to save the day? To add to the madcap hysterics, secret admirers reveal their passions, ancient artifacts are found and jewels go missing, all while a nail-biting tournament of golf unfolds on the greens.
