The Hendersonville City Council honored police Lt. Leon Worthy for his 22 years of service, granting him the right to keep his side arm, a Glock model 45 9 mm-handgun.
State law allows local governments to award retiring officers their service side arm at a price determined by such governing body, in this case $1. After Mayor Barbara Volk read a resolution honoring Worthy, Chief Blair Myhand reached into his shirt pocket and handed a crumpled $1 bill to Worthy, who handed the payment to the mayor.
