Henderson County’s Clerk of Superior Court on Wednesday said he wants residents to be aware of a scam that revolves around jury duty.
The clerk’s office and Henderson County Sheriff’s Department received reports recently from people in the area who said they were called and told there was a warrant for their arrest because they missed jury duty, said Tyler Ray, the clerk of superior court in Henderson County. The caller then demanded payment over the phone saying the people would be arrested if they did not pay.
Ray said his office and the sheriff’s department never ask for money over the telephone.
“We never call and demand money,” he said. “It’s a scam. Do not give anybody money over the telephone in regard to jury service.”
People who receive a similar call should hang up and immediately contact law enforcement, he said.
