Madison Cawthorn on Sunday called the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection defendants "political prisoners," mused about "busting them out," hinted at "plans in motion" to call protesters back to Washington, exaggerated the extent of violence during 2020 George Floyd protests and hinted at how President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris can be taken down "one at a time."

Cawthorn repeated the claims of former President Trump and his supporters that the 2020 election was stolen, said it was "wrong" to believe Gov. After signing a shotgun the Macon County Republicans were giving away in a raffle, the first-term representative and youngest member of Congress shared his definition of the Second Amendment.
“The Second Amendment was not written so that we can go hunting or we can shoot sporting clays,” he said. “The Second Amendment was written so that we can fight against tyranny.”
