The Henderson County Department of Public Health will begin offering booster doses to recipients of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine for certain high-risk individuals starting Tuesday at Blue Ridge Mall.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Friday that the Pfizer Covid-19 booster shot is recommended for individuals who have been fully vaccinated for six months or more with the Pfizer vaccine. People who are 65 years or older, 18 years or older with underlying medical conditions or work in a high-risk setting such as health care workers, teachers and childcare providers or food workers are eligible.
Starting Tuesday, Pfizer booster doses will be offered Tuesdays and Thursdays at the former JCPenney location at the Blue Ridge Mall, 1800 Four Seasons Boulevard. Appointments can be made at www.hendersoncountync.gov/health or by calling 828-585-4700.
The authorization applies only to the Pfizer vaccine. Those who received initial doses of the Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccine are not eligible for boosters at this time. The Health Department will not administer a Pfizer booster dose to previous recipients of the Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
Proof of vaccination is required for a booster dose. Individuals should bring their vaccine card or show similar proof of vaccination.
In the event of a lost card, the clinic can confirm proof of vaccination administered by providers registered though the NC COVID-19 Vaccine Portal. These include vaccines from AdventHealth Hendersonville, Blue Ridge Health and Pardee UNC Health Care. Having a vaccine card in hand will speed up the process.
Anyone without a card who received their vaccination from a provider participating in the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program (CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, etc.) or Veterans Affairs will need to get proof directly from that provider. That information is not available to the Health Department.
Additionally, the clinic will continue to provide free vaccines to everyone 12 and older seeking their initial Covid-19 vaccine on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Blue Ridge Mall. Individuals can make an appointment at www.hendersoncountync.gov/health.
