Former Hendersonville Christian School property
Size: 9.5 acres. Includes gym and classroom building, parking lot.
Cost: $2.2 million for land and improvements.
Amenities: Henderson County plans to upgrade facilities for handicapped access, add artificial turf and lighting for a soccer and multi-use field. Gym and classrooms could be used for a wide variety of indoor activities from crafts to adult basketball leagues to basic law enforcement courses offered by Blue Ridge Community College. The property meets the top priorities identified in a 2007 recreation needs assessment except for an indoor pool.
Status: The county is waiting to close because the sale of land owned by a non-profit organization must be approved by the state attorney general.
Quote: "The nice exciting part of it is the central location to Henderson County," says county Parks and Recreation Director Tim Hopkin. "It's also nice to see how close it is to Jackson Park and the connectivity that might be possible both to downtown and to Jackson Park itself."
