Highland Lake Park (proposed)
Flat Rock Village Council formed the Highland Lake Park Exploratory Committee to survey the public, propose park improvements and make cost estimates for capital and operating costs of a village park.
Size: 67 acres. Property includes a clubhouse and office of Course Doctors, parking lot.
Cost: Highland Lake Golf Club is on the market for $1.3 million. Henderson County had optioned the park property for $1.1 million before the deal collapsed amid opposition to a soccer complex. (The golf course is still open and in operation while it's on the market.)
Quote: "That piece of property is a gateway to the village of Flat Rock and it is green space that we would very much like to see remain as green space," says Flat Rock Mayor Bob Staton. "... It's been on the market for probably two years, the opportunity is there and it's a valuable piece of property and it will protect our interest. The time is right to do it if we go forward with it."
