BRCC named 8th best community college in U.S.

North Carolina dominated a financial adviser's list of the top 10 community colleges in the U.S. with seven on the list, including Blue Ridge Community College at No. 8.

 SmartAsset, a financial advice company, used student-to-faculty ratio, graduation and transfer rate and the cost of tuition and fees to evaluate 801 schools and rank the top 10.

Ranked No. 1 was Montgomery Community College in Troy followed by Carteret Community College in Morehead City at No. 2. Other top 10 winners were Halifax Community College in Weldon, Lenoir Community College in Kinston, Haywood Community College in Clyde and Randolph Community College in Asheboro. The study said 71 percent of BRCC students earned a degree or transferred to a four-year college. Tuition and fees were $2,651 a year and student-faculty ratio was 13-1.
