A Blue Ridge Mountains ax murder from 1831 is the subject of a documentary airing this month on the Investigation Discovery cable channel, the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
The News & Observer reports on the televison program based on a book by Chapel Hill author Perry Deane Young, who grew up in the Kona Valley area between Burnsville and Spruce Pine where teenage mother Frankie Silver killed her husband with an ax and was later hanged on despite a widespread movement in her defense. The show airs Jan. 25.
