Early voting turnout almost double the 2018 total

One-stop voter turnout in the primary election was high compared to the last off-year election, with 10,876 voters casting ballots in Henderson County, well ahead of the 2018 total of 5,780. The primary election ends today with polls up until 7:30 p.m.

Of the total, 4,744 were Republicans, 4,321 unaffiliated and 1,809 Democrats. The numbers indicate that unaffiliated voters overwhelmingly chose to request a Republican ballot. There were 8,621 Republican ballots cast compared to 2,615 Democratic ballots, a more than 3-to-1 advantage for the GOP.

Turnout climbed steadily from opening day on April 28, reaching its peak on Friday, the last weekday of early voting, when 1,545 voters went to one of four early voting sites. The highest vote totals by precinct were Flat Rock, Atkinson, Horse Shoe, Hendersonville 1, Fletcher, Etowah Valley and South Blue Ridge.

Laurel Park is the only precinct among 35 in the county with a new polling place. The site has changed from the First Congregational Church to Agudas Israel Congregation, 505 Glasgow Lane.
