Chargemaster manager named Team Member of the Month at Pardee

Gabriela Sabou, a key team employee responsible for keeping hospital revenue on track, was named Team Member of the Month in June, Pardee UNC Health Care announced.

The award is given to a Pardee team member who demonstrates excellence in action and positively contributes to achieving the organization’s mission, vision and goals. This person is recognized for going above and beyond their normal duties to support patients, customers, peers, the organization and its community. The Team Member of the Month award showcases the many different roles that go into keeping a health system, like Pardee, operating and delivering patient-centered, quality care.
As chargemaster manager for the revenue integrity department, Sabou coordinates with each department, the central billing office and UNC Health to keep the chargemaster updated, while also overseeing charge review for various other areas. A hospital chargemaster is the collection of standard list prices for hospital services.
Nominated by her colleagues, Sabou is described as a hardworking team player who serves as a resource for everyone.

“She makes herself available anytime you need her and will drop what she is doing to help you,” a colleague said. “Her work on the chargemaster is paramount to our success in the Central Billing Office,” another colleague noted. “She offers to volunteer on projects to lighten the workload and make processes more efficient.”

Sabou was commended for her ability to work through and rectify unforeseen challenges that could have inflated the hospital’s charges for a product. “Her exceptional critical thinking skills and her dedication to Pardee is impressive,” a nominator said.
