Byers Precision Fabricators, a Hendersonville plant that created metal accents and a logo for the Arras Hotel in Asheville, has reached the semifinals of the “Coolest Thing Made in NC” contest.
The fabricator at 675 Dana Road, visible from I-26, was in the running with 80 other North Carolina businesses for its Arras Hotel Architectural Panels. Byers Precision Fabricators has a long history of taking on complex projects that require creative engineering and precise fabrication.
“What an incredible honor this is," company President Anthony Byers said. "Considering the tens of thousands of unique products made in North Carolina, for Byers Precision to be recognized for one of the sixteen coolest things to be manufactured this year is a testament to the creativity and skill that our employees provide for our customers.” Said Byers Precision, located in Hendersonville, was announced to the public as a semi-finalist on September 8—along with 36 other semifinalists, for their Arras Hotel Architectural Panels in Asheville.
The company got its start in 1942 when Paul Byers opened a general sheet metal shop in Hendersonville. Byers Sheet Metal Works quickly became one of the largest ductwork and roofing contractors in the state, the company says in a history on its website. Now led by Paul's son, Roger Byers, Byers Precision Fabricators operates in a 60,000-square-foot facility that it calls "one of the cleanest, most modern job shops in the world."

The second round of voting continues through Friday, Sept. 16.
The top 5 businesses in each category will be announced on Thursday, Sept. 22, when Byers may move on to the last round, and compete as a “Top 5” contender. The winner will be announced on Oct. 6.
The vote tally has been reset to level the field for all semifinalists. As in the first round, the community may still only vote once a day with a valid email address.

"Their vision was to transform the former BB&T building in downtown Asheville to the boutique French-styled hotel, Arras," Byers says in a feature on the project. "Part of this design included incorporating the Arras logo into decorative metal panels as large as 20 feet in height and width."
