What do you do in your volunteer job?

Mainly, I handle personal correspondence for the managers. I’ve worked with all the directors for years and that’s been my job.

How long have you been volunteering?

Since 1988 or 89.

Why do you volunteer?

Because I like to help when I can. I meet a lot of people and I learn a lot of things.

What’s the best thing about volunteering?

You have chosen to support something you believe in. You learn so much. You volunteer in different places and you learn different things. I’ve done all kinds of volunteering.

If someone is interested in volunteering, what advice would you give based on your own experience?

That’s a hard one. It depends on whether the person is interested in personal gain or helping an organization. Be interested in where you volunteer. (She said an agency years ago guided volunteers toward organizations that fit their interests.)
