The city of Hendersonville will celebrate Arbor Day at noon Friday, May 12, with the planting of a stewartia tree behind the shuffleboard court at Toms Park on Lily Pond Lane.
The public is invited to attend the hour-long ceremony, which will include Mayor Barbara Volk and people from the Forest Service, Four Seasons Rotary Club and the Hendersonville Tree Board. The event is hosted by Four Seasons Rotary Club, which has sponsored Arbor Day events in Hendersonville since the first one was held in 1991.
This year marks the 151st anniversary of Arbor Day, a national celebration of trees and their value to communities. Hendersonville has been a Tree City USA for more than 30 years, recognized by the Arbor Day Foundation for its commitment to effective urban forest management. The TreeCity USA program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters.
