Four hotels serve the four corners of the I-26 interchange on Upward Road and now a fifth is in the pipeline.
The Hendersonville Planning Board this month OK’d plans for a four-story 95-room Tru by Hilton on the southwest corner of the interchange next to the Holiday Inn Express. Satis Patel of Upward Road Hospitality LLC is the developer of the 46,000-square-foot project on a 1.5-acre site overlooking I-26.
The Planning Board, which had approved a preliminary site plan on June 8, approved the hotel design on Aug. 10 with a few deviations from the standards spelled out in the city’s zoning code. Some of the code’s design requirements were impossible to meet, the applicant said, because of Hilton’s own strict standards for facades, building materials and other architectural features. The Planning Board approved the alternative design, permitting Patel to proceed with the hotel. Alternative designs are allowed as long as the result “is as good as, or better than” what the code’s standards would produce.
The new Tru joins numerous other commercial projects under construction or approved on Upward Road including the area’s first QuikTrip convenience store, a drive-thru Starbucks and Dairi-O burger and ice cream shop.
