Henderson County public school leaders will hold a town-hall meeting at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, in the Steve Wyatt Auditorium in the Patton Building of Blue Ridge Community College to recruit volunteers for a mentoring program in the school system.
The inspiration for the idea came from the McNair Foundation in Rutherford County. Volunteer adult mentors meet with students individually to review student grades, course selection, attendance and behavior, participation in extracurricular activities, SAT/ACT registration and other topics.
“We believe that by uniting our community in support of our students, we unlock the ability of every child to access the guidance and encouragement they need to thrive,” schools Superintendent Mark R. Garrett said. “We invite all community members who share our passion for students to join us at this meeting and help shape the future of Henderson County.”
