Burr aide joins county as business promoter

Henderson County has hired an aide to U.S. Sen. Richard Burr as the county's first director of Business and Community Development.
John Mitchell, the new business coordinator, has served as Burr's field representative in the NC mountains since 2008.
A 2004 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Asheville, he is currently pursuing a masters of public administration degree at Western Carolina University.
"I am pleased that John has accepted the challenge of joining our team," County Manager Steve Wyatt said in a news release. "John brings a strong commitment to customer service and a number of strengths to Henderson County. I am very impressed by his background experience and his perspective on the issues facing Henderson County as we work to strengthen our economic position in the world economy."
Mitchell said: "I am looking forward to continuing to serve the citizens of Henderson County in this new role. It is a privilege to join such a great team and work to expand economic opportunity in our community."
Mitchell begins his new position on March 4.
