With a wife named Hope, a daughter named Grace, a son named Luke and last name of Reagan, a mountain Republican challenging U.S. Rep. Chuck Edwards might sound like a made-up character out of a Hollywood writers' room.
And yet, Christian Reagan is real. A mortgage broker by day, the "God fearing, family loving" Republican in a white cowboy hat lives in Hayesville with his wife, Hope, and their cats Max and Molly and yellow lab, Bella. Their two children are grown. He's been in the race for a while, having declared his candidacy by this past July, when he was making appearances in counties in the 11th Congressional District.
"Our country has been sold out and destroyed from within, by the 'elite' class in Washington, D.C.," he says in his campaign website. "They see themselves as 'American Royalty' and they conspire against the American people to establish rules of power for their own personal benefit. ... If elected to Congress, I will represent the forgotten men and women in the United States. We have been pushed aside for too long and to be honest we have been forgotten and looked upon as weak peasants."
Jane Bilello, a leader of the Asheville Tea Party, sent out an announcement last week that Reagan would speak at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, at Mills River Restaurant, 4467 Boylston Highway.
Edwards, of Flat Rock, has announced that he is running for re-election and has begun campaign fundraising.
