An ice storm overnight coated trees, created hazardous driving conditions and knocked out power to hundreds of customers. The National Weather Service issued an ice storm warning for Henderson and Buncombe counties until 9 a.m., when forecasters said the precipitation should turn to rain.
Duke Energy reported 512 customers in Henderson County without power at 6:30 a.m. today and four in Polk County. The greatest number of outages was in the Tuxedo area near the U.S. 25 connector.
The high today was expected to be 44 degrees. A chance of snow returns Wednesday night, Friday night and Saturday, the weather service said.
