Crews make progress containing Poplar Drive fire

The Poplar Drive fire is 434 acres and is 30 percent contained. Percent containment represents sections of fire line that pose no escape risk without further action from firefighters.

“The strategic firing operation slated for today was a success," Incident Commander Kevin Harvell said. "The increase in fire acreage is due to the firing operation executed today.. Firefighters completed the burning as quickly, efficiently and safely as possible. The burn resulted in bringing the fire edge to the already established containment lines, making them more defensible.”

Firefighters working other areas along the fire perimeter continued to mop-up hot and smoldering pockets using water handling equipment and hand tools to turn over the duff to eliminate the areas of heat.
