CHRISTMAS GIFT IDEAS: Mitten Tree, toys for boys and girls

Sophia and Allen Haskins invite the community to donate to the Mitten Tree at Trinity Presbyterian Church.

Mitten Tree is up

The Mitten Tree is up at Trinity. That’s good news because many local toddlers, middles, and teenagers — kids of all ages — need the warmth of the new mittens, gloves, hats, stocking caps, socks and other small clothing items that decorate The Mitten Tree. Sophia and Allen Haskins and Trinity invite the community to join them in providing warm and cozy decorations for the special sharing tree at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 900 Blythe St.  The gifts on The Mitten Tree will go to IAM and from there to children in the community who will really appreciate them in the cold of winter.

Boys & Girls Club seeks donations of toys

The Boys & Girls Club of Henderson County is reaching out to the community with a heartfelt request: a donation of toys for children aged 6-12, ensuring that every child has a reason to smile this festive season.
The holiday season is a time of joy and celebration, but for some families in Henderson County, providing gifts for their children can be challenging. Recognizing this need, the Boys & Girls Club continues its Santa's Workshop toy drive tradition to ensure no child feels left out.
"We believe every child deserves a joyful holiday experience regardless of their circumstances," remarked Carolyn Ashworth, CEO of the Boys & Girls Club. "Through this toy drive, we hope to bring the season's magic to as many children as possible."
The Boys & Girls Club serves over 1,000 youth annually, with 92% of members qualifying for free or reduced lunch last year. Factors like this highlight the importance of community support during the holidays for these households. "We diligently work within our walls and with partner agencies to ensure children have adequate food and clothing resources. However, toys are often not considered a necessity, becoming an afterthought. Individual and business gifts are sometimes the only holiday cheer gifted to our members, and we are so grateful for the community's support."

Here are the details:

  • What to donate: New, unwrapped toys suitable for children aged 6-12.
  • When and where: Donations may be dropped off 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. weekdays at The Boys & Girls Club of Henderson County, 1304 Ashe St.
  • Deadline: All toys should be received by Wednesday, Dec. 13.

The Boys & Girls Club of Henderson County has been a cornerstone of the community since 1993, providing a safe, stable and nurturing environment for children and teens. Its mission is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.
