Election filing got off to a strong start Monday when 20 candidates filed for local and state seats.
Flat Rock's vice mayor, Anne Coletta, signed up to run for mayor after incumbent Nick Weedman announced he would retire when his term expires in December 2024. Laurel Park Mayor Carey O'Cain filed for re-election. Five candidates filed for the Henderson County Board of Commissioners.
Former School Board Chair Amy Lynn Holt signed up to win a seat to return to the board, Robert Bridges filed for re-election and former board member Michael Absher, who lost his seat in the 2020 election, will attempt to return to the board.
Qualifying ends at noon Dec. 15. The primary election is March 5 and the general election is Nov. 5. Here are the candidates who filed Monday (with party affiliation indicated in elections that are partisan):
