Edwards's cash on hand crushes challenger's, $660,075 to $1,003

U.S. Rep. Chuck Edwards overwhelmed Republican challenger Christian Reagan in campaign fundraising, raising more than 50 times the total that Reagan raised, records showed.

Edwards raised $866,783 through Dec. 31, spent $303,598 and had cash on hand of $661,078. Reagan, a mortgage broker from Hayesville who moved to North Carolina from Texas, raised $16,321, spent $15,317 and had $1,003 cash on hand, according to campaign finance reports filed with the Federal Elections Commission. Democrat Caleb Rudow, a state House member also running for the 11th Congressional District seat, raised $69,701, spent $11,937 and had cash on hand of $57,764.

The largest category of Edwards's donors were retirees, $133,291, followed by those in securities and investment, $126,115; and real estate, $79,116. Overall, PACs gave $261,750, 30.2 percent of the total; followed by large individual contributor, (29.1 percent); individual contributions under $200, $16,724 (1.9 percent).
