Henderson County public schools will host the second annual First LEGO League Challenge Event on Saturday during which students from 13 middle and elementary schools plus participants from five Buncombe County schools and the Hendersonville Boys & Girls Club will showcase their skills and innovation as they build a LEGO robot.
LEGO league challenges are renowned for fostering teamwork, creativity and problem-solving among participants. Students, coaches, and volunteers say these events are among the most inspiring and exhilarating experiences they've ever had. The school system's Robotics Club is cohosting.
“It's such a unique opportunity for our students to make new friends, tackle challenges, and exchange ideas, all while being immersed in technology,” said Marcie Wilson, director of Student Achievement for the school system.
The challenge introduces STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) concepts to students through engaging, hands-on learning experiences. Wilson said participants gain practical problem-solving skills while contributing to building a brighter future through guided robotics programs that promote collaboration between students and teachers.
The event will be held at North Henderson High School, at 35 Fruitland Rd., and is free and open to the public. Activities will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with the spectator event starting at noon. Attendees can expect an afternoon filled with excitement and innovation as students showcase critical thinking, coding and design skills across three engaging divisions.
