Responding to public "concern and desire for information" about the officer-involved shooting that left a Tennessee man dead on Saturday night, the Henderson County Sheriff's Office announced Wednesday afternoon that Sheriff Lowell Griffin will share further information on the incident late next week.
Deputies shot and killed 29-year-old Hayden Elias Brook Saturday night after he opened fire on them following a car chase, the sheriff's office said Monday. The officers were responding to a 911 call at 6:07 p.m. that a man with a gun was threatening people near the North Mills River Campground. When officers arrived, the suspect drove off and deputies gave chase. After the driver crashed his van on North Mills River Road, he fired shots from the vehicle. leading to the exchange of gunfire, the sheriff's office said in a news release.
Here is the full statement the sheriff issued Wednesday:
"The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office and the State Bureau of Investigation are dedicated to conducting a thorough and comprehensive investigation into the events of that day. In order to preserve the integrity of this ongoing investigation and ensure its unimpeded progress, the Sheriff’s Office will NOT be releasing any additional details until the upcoming statement from Sheriff Griffin.
"We understand the community's concern and desire for information and assure the public that all aspects of this incident are being meticulously reviewed. The forthcoming statement from Sheriff Griffin will be directly shared with the public on our official social media platforms as well as through the HCSO Mobile App.
