Here are nonprofit grants in proposed city budget

Nonprofits delivering services in arts, recreation, education, health and economic development would get appropriations if the Hendersonville City Council adopts the budget recommended by City Manager John Connet.

The council is scheduled to discuss and could adopt the $62.8 million budget Thursday night after a public hearing. The meeting is at 5:45 p.m. in the City Operations Center, 305 Williams St.

Thirty nonprofit agencies requested grants totaling $403,000 this year; city staff and council members pared the total to $143,500. Grant awards in the draft budget in arts and education are:

  • Arts Council of Henderson County, $2,250.
  • Blue Ridge Literacy Council, $5,075.
  • Boys & Girls Club, $2,825.
  • Flat Rock Playhouse Vagabond School, $1,125.
  • Henderson County Education Foundation, Leader in Me, $3,625.
  • Hendersonville Community Theatre, $2,250.
  • Hendersonville Shuffleboard Club, $1,200.
  • Hendersonville Symphony Orchestra, third and fifth grade concerts, $1,500.
  • Hendersonville Symphony Youth Education, $1,500.
  • Mineral and Lapidary Museum, $2,375.
  • Team ECCO Aquarium & Shark Lab, $3,000.
  • Hope Center of Hendersonville, $3,525.
  • YMCA of Western North Carolina, $5,250.

Health, human services, economic development:

  • Agribusiness Henderson County (AgHC), $3,750.
  • Blue Ridge Community Health Services, $5,625.
  • Blue Ridge Humane Society, $3,125.
  • Children & Family Resource Center, $3,000.
  • Henderson County Council on Aging, $15,000.
  • Henderson County Habitat for Humanity, $25,000.
  • Henderson County Young Leaders (Camplify), $2,000.
  • Interfaith Assistance Ministry, $19,500.
  • Medical Loan Closet, $1,250.
  • Only Hope WNC, $3125.
  • Pisgah Legal Services, $4,625.
  • Safelight, $3,000.
  • Gerard House, $3,000.
  • Star Lite, $2,000.
  • The Mediation Center, $1,125.
  • Thrive, $7,500.
