School Board candidate Crystal Cauley dies unexpectedly

Crystal Cauley, who was active in numerous civil rights causes and efforts to advance the African-American community, died unexpectedly Sunday, June 16, at her home, Roseboro Funeral and Cremation Service confirmed on Tuesday. She was 44.

Cauley, who listed her full name in a candidate filing as Crystal Felicia Cauley Channer, was a Democratic candidate for the Henderson County School Board. She was founder and director of the Black History Collective of Henderson County, and was involved in the Black Business Network of WNC, the 7th Avenue/Brooklyn Community Garden and the Green Meadows community, and was twice nominated for the Athena Award, the Hendersonville Times-News reported last August.

The funeral home will issue an obituary and announce arrangements at a later time, Elaine Roseboro said.
